The Digital Services Act: ensuring a safe and accountable online environment

New opportunities to deliver digital services across borders will be made possible for the first time by a common set of rules on intermediaries’ responsibilities and accountability across the single market, while also ensuring a high level of protection for all users, regardless of where they reside in the EU.

The new regulations are reasonable, encourage innovation, growth, and competition, and make it easier for start-ups, SMEs, and smaller platforms to scale up. According to European ideals, the roles of users, platforms, and government agencies are rebalanced to put citizens at the center.

The laws

  • Improved online consumer protection for their fundamental rights
  • Provide a structure with strong accountability and transparency for internet platforms.
  • Encourage growth, innovation, and competition inside the single market.

Millions of Europeans use online intermediary services every day, and the Digital Services Act includes regulations for them. The responsibility of various online players is in line with their place, importance, and influence within the online ecosystem.

What is the impact of new obligations? Check out the European Commission Official website.
